BRIDGE STREET

The two storey extension to an existing Victorian terrace provides for a young family. Off form concrete defined the client brief. The material implied the formal gesture of the carved exterior working with heritage and planning constraints.

The dominance of the chimney vernacular is re-appropriated and inverted in order to bring light down into the constrained site. Sculptured light wells defined by the interior form protrude as sculptured elements.

Elevated garden beds provide aspect for the occupants and contribute to the borrowed landscape regularly experienced in the inner suburbs of Melbourne.
